Two months living with the new veterinary regulation

The Veterinary Medicinal Products Regulation (EU) 2019/6 has been in force already since 28 January 2022, but some changes in the national guidelines, legislations and systems are yet to come. The practical regulatory and pharmacovigilance work has already started, although all the details concerning the work in practice are not yet fully implemented. For example, some national guidelines for fees and variations are missing, and not all products are available in the Union Product Database (UPD).

The Regulation has brought about huge changes to the daily practicalities of marketing authorisation and safety activities. Implementation has proceeded well, even though there are still some challenges. In the end, these changes will reduce the overall administrative burden and increase the safety of the animals.
